## An existing business on a legacy platform.

The company offered long-term hotel stays in Germany, with a PHP monolith behind the booking business. Rebuilding the platform meant understanding that existing system and carrying its data and business requirements into the next one.

The work also had to account for different users: guests making bookings, hosts managing their offering, and the people administering the platform.

The business moved from the PHP monolith to a serverless cloud platform. The work brought together the data migration, hotel integrations, search, and the applications needed to operate the booking business.

The shared design system also gave the team a common basis for continued work across its guest, host, and administration experiences.

How it went

## Rebuild the platform and the connections around it.

1. Analysis  
### Understand the starting point  
We carried out a detailed analysis of the existing platform and developed a roadmap for its replacement. That gave the rewrite a basis in the system the business already used.
2. Rewrite  
### Implement the new architecture  
The engagement included a serverless rewrite and data migration. Fractional CTO leadership, design, and engineering connected the architectural choices to the work of delivering the new platform.
3. Inventory  
### Connect hotel inventory  
We built integrations for hotel availability and pricing, together with location and filter search. The booking experience could draw on live hotel information.
4. Design system  
### Create a shared design system  
Guest, host, and administration applications were developed around a shared design system, giving the different parts of the product a common foundation.
