Frequently Asked Questions

General info

How does Coyotiv differ from other bootcamps?

We repeatedly say that Coyotiv is not a bootcamp; it is the next generation, remote software engineering education designed to make you a first-class software engineer from scratch. To do that, we go way beyond a crash course, and teach you the mentality of modern software engineering, so you can be ready to learn the next technology whenever it comes out because you’ll understand the why behind the what, and the how will always fall into place.

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We see software as a craft and teach through apprenticeship to a master craftsperson. That way, you’ll build not only working software, but also well-crafted software.

We don’t only have strong connections with the industry, we are IN the center of the industry! Coyotiv’s ecosystem consists of four pillars constantly supporting each other: Teaching, Mentorship, Collaboration, and Innovation. Coyotiv is already out there in the real world, thus we are providing our insights that are used in-demand in the industry today.

To complete Coyotiv School successfully, how many hours should I dedicate to it each day? How intensive is the course?

In our full-time course, we expect the students to be in class every morning for 2-hour live lectures with our main instructor, plus work with our teaching assistants and their peers until the end of the day (approximately 8 hours of study).

Our self-paced course has the same content as the full-time course, but you can decide your own schedule since it doesn’t include live lectures. However, it does have 24/7 code support from our teaching assistants.

Can I really become a software engineer in 3 months?

Yes! Numerous students changed their lives at the end of our intense 14-week program and are now working as confident software engineers in the field. While an academic degree teaches you all of the theoretical knowledge including the hardware layer of your computer, Coyotiv offers a more hands-on approach to learning. With our program, you will be working on your software project from day one. That being said, you will also acquire theoretical knowledge, however, we focus on the practical application of your skills and how you can apply them in real-life situations.

Who teaches at Coyotiv?

The course is designed and taught at length by Armağan Amcalar, a master craftsperson who entered the craft of programming over 20 years ago. Acting as a team lead, software architect, engineering manager, and CTO, Armağan has led hundreds of people in the industry and helped them grow their careers. As a public speaker and lecturer, he taught software to several hundred at universities and in the community. Now is the time he is transferring all of this hands-on industry experience to our students. You will also have seasoned teaching assistants, and peer learners by your side, whenever you need support.

Who are Coyotiv Peer Learners?

We get to train so many amazing students and are thrilled that some of them start working with us after graduation. Coyotiv Peer Learners are Coyotiv graduates who have gone through what you are going through in the course. They are here to help you and keep learning with you.

What is the average number of students per class?

We believe that small class sizes are beneficial to both our students and our instructors. With 15 students at max, the focus will be on the learner and our instructors can be flexible to meet the needs of each student individually. Many people feel less intimidated in smaller classes. This allows them to ask more questions and participate in discussions.

Why is the course fully remote?

With restrictions in place to make sure that we all remain healthy and safe, a remote course provides learners with the best opportunities. You don’t need to move to a different city or commute long distances in order to participate in the course. Additionally, having worked in various remote scenarios we have experienced the possibilities and fully believe in the concept. Our approach will prepare you best for a remote engineering career!

Student profile

I don’t have any coding experience. Can I still join?

Absolutely yes! All you need is motivation, curiosity, an open mind, and willingness to join our community. In fact, most of our students don’t have prior experience before starting their course.

Our program starts with a 4-week precourse for you to acquire all the basic knowledge you need. Throughout the course, you will gain knowledge and build up your confidence with our hands-on approach.

How old do I need to be to attend the bootcamp?

You should be at least 18 years old to enroll in the course.

What is the language of the course?

Our course is taught in English.

Do I need a laptop?

Yes, you need a modern Mac or a laptop that can run Windows 10 or a modern GNU/Linux distro to follow the class and create your project.

Application

How can I apply?

You can submit your application through this link:https://www.coyotiv.com/school-of-software-engineering/apply.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email and one of our team members will call you to answer your questions. After that, you will schedule a call with our main instructor to get to know each other and see if the course is right for you.

It’s not an interview, but to get to know you better. We’ll notify you of your acceptance as soon as possible.

If I live in another country, am I eligible to apply?

Yes, all of our courses are remote. However, you are required to attend live lectures for the successful completion of the full-time course. As long as you have a reliable internet connection and can attend live lectures, you can participate in the course. Keep in mind that Coyotiv is based in Germany, and we follow Central European Time (CET).

Do you help international students to get a visa?

No, Coyotiv can't arrange any kind of visa for you.

Financial matters

What are the tuition fees?

The full-time course costs 10.000 €, and the self-paced course costs 5.000 €.

What are the financial options?

You can make your payment in installments. With this option, you will pay an initial deposit, then split the rest of your tuition into installments with no additional interest.

There are two more financial options for the full-time software engineering course: the Bildungsgutschein and Income Share Agreement (ISA). If you are unemployed and a resident of Germany, you may apply for the Bildungsgutschein and participate for free. Learn more about the Bildungsgutschein here.

You may be eligible for an Income Share Agreement (ISA) if you reside in Germany during your studies. With this option, you get to study first and pay later when you find a job. Learn more about the Income Share Agreement here.

Is there any scholarship available?

At Coyotiv, we do our best to provide a level playing field for all through Coyotiv Diversity Scholarships.

You can apply for the scholarships if you identify as part of a marginalized group, e. g. women*, LGBTQIA+ people, women* of color, women* with non-standard economic, migratory, or social status, and so forth.

Do you offer any free courses?

Unfortunately, no. However, Coyotiv Public Lecture Series on YouTube is a great way to take a sneak peek into what you'll be experiencing at Coyotiv School of Software Engineering.

Curriculum

How should I choose between full-time and self-paced study?

Our self-paced program provides the same quality content and curriculum as our full-time course, but you can make progress on your skills at your own speed. It’s ideal for self-driven novice coders with unpredictable schedules. If you are still trying to figure out if Coyotiv is right for you, the self-paced course is a great way to find out. If you wish, you will be able to upgrade your program to full-time course.

The full-time course requires you to be available all day, thus you would not be able to work or study during this time. It’s ideal for people who can invest 40+ hours a week for 14 weeks into training.

What will you be covering in the course?

We offer courses on software engineering, Vue.js, MongoDB, Node.js and Express.js, Docker, and Google Cloud. We teach full-stack engineering with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS with modern frameworks such as Vue.js and Node.js.

We start HTML and CSS on week 2, and Vue.js on week 8. And you continue with the Frontend until the end of the course. Since it’s a full-stack software engineering course, you start building the Frontend of your software project on week 4 with server-side rendering in Express.js

For more details, please check out our curriculum.

What is your teaching method?

Coyotiv adopts a master-to-apprentice method. Just as the master artisans, master software developers have their styles and they will expand those styles into schools. They teach the path of development to their apprentices. Where experiencing and learning everything from scratch would take tens of years, finding a good master and being a hard-core apprentice takes only a few years. This model is so suitable for the software, we haven’t seen any other approach perform better.

Our training is project-based, meaning you will be working on your own software project throughout the course. Unlike other courses that focus on building a project later in the program, you will start working on your project from day 1 until you graduate. You will be guided by seasoned industry experts who are also experienced educators, and you will have peer learners who have gone the same path as you did.

After graduation

Do you offer career support?

Yes. During your software engineering course, you will meet your career coach. They will help you with everything from writing effective resumes, and building online portfolios to mock interviews. Your coach will assess your performance during the mock interviews to see how much progress you’ve made. They will be available to answer any questions you have about the industry or the process of applying for jobs. They are a great resource for any student looking to start a new career.

Can you guarantee future employment?

Some of our graduates end up working with the Coyotiv Collaboration Platform. However, we do not guarantee future employment. You will graduate with a project on your GitHub to show prospective employers. After graduation, you can start applying for junior developer roles. And we assist with your search. We help with building up your resume and cover letter, choosing which jobs to apply for, and your interview skills.

What will be my job title after I complete the program?

When you finish the program, you'll be prepared to enter the job market as a junior software engineer.

Will I receive a certificate of graduation at the end of the course?

Yes. At the end of the course, you will get a certificate of graduation from Coyotiv School of Software Engineering to show your participation and success.
